Dr. Wessels treated me for moderate to severe hemorrhoids sympathetically, effectively, and patiently for about a decade. Since I was concurrently treated with warfarin (Coumadin) he delayed advising a hemorrhoidectomy since that procedure would require me to be off the anticoagulant for approximately a month. Finally, the bleeding associated with the hemorrhoids became so severe that I was acutely anemic and lost the ability to even climb a moderate set of stairs. It was clear that the hemorrhoidectomy was required and that I would need to be off the anticoagulant (blood thinner) for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Dr. Wessels performed the surgery on March 14, 2015 and my recovery period was as expected, approximately two weeks of predicted discomfort that was managed with pain medication and warm baths. The surgery was completely successful and I no longer have any symptoms of prolapsed internal hemorrhoids, severe bleeding or discomfort of any kind. A complete success. I offer my thanks to Dr. Wessels for every phase of his treatment including and especially the successful hemorrhoidectomy. Whereas my life was controlled by cosmetic embarrassments and consistently difficult resolution of bowel movements, I have returned to a completely normal life,( proctologically speaking).
